WHAT IS A SPEECH PATHOLOGIST

A Speech Pathologist can support a child to build their communications skills. This includes:

Speech: Articulation (clarity of speech), fluency (stuttering), and voice disorders.
Language: Expressive (producing language) and receptive language (understanding language)
Social/Emotional: Supporting the development of social and emotional literacy skills
Literacy (written communication)
Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC): Using something other than verbal speech to communicate e.g. sign language, visuals, speech generating device.

Speech Pathologists can work with children with or without a formal diagnosis. This includes children with developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, Autism, neurological conditions, brain injuries, hearing impairment and other conditions which can impact speech and language development.
